Thanksgiving After Meals Prayer

Psalm 126 (on Shabbat and Holidays)

A SONG OF ASCENTS.  When the LORD brought back the captive ones of Zion, we were like those who dream.  Then our mouths were filled with laughter, and our tongues with joyful shouting.  Then they said among the nations, “The LORD has done great things for them.”  The LORD has done great things for us, and we are glad.  Bring back our captivity, LORD, as the streams in the Negev.  Those who sow in tears shall reap in joy.  He who continually goes forth weeping, bearing seed for sowing, shall doubtless come again with rejoicing bringing his sheaves.

Invitation (with three or more)

Leader:  GENTLEMEN, let’s give thanks.

Others:  May the name of the LORD be blessed from now and forever.

Leader:  May the name of the LORD be blessed from now and forever.

With your permission…let us bless the One from whose food we have eaten.

Others:  Blessed is the One from whose food we have eaten, and by whose goodness we live.

Leader:  Bless is the One from whose food we have eaten, and by whose goodness we live.  Blessed is He, and blessed is His name.

Blessings

BLESSED are You, LORD our God, King of the universe, who feeds the entire world in His goodness, grace, kindness, and compassion.  He gives bread to all flesh for His kindness is eternal.  Because of His great goodness, we have never lacked, nor may we ever lack food forever and ever, for the sake of His great name.  For He is God who feeds and sustains all, does good to all, and prepares food for all of His creatures, which He has made.  Leader:  Blessed are you, LORD, who feeds all.  (Others:  Amen).

WE THANK You, LORD our God, for the inheritance you granted the fathers, a pleasant, good, and spacious land.  Leader: Blessed are you, LORD, for the land and for the food.  (Others:  Amen).

PLEASE have compassion, LORD our God, on Israel Your people, on Jerusalem Your city, on Zion the dwelling place of Your glory, and on the kingdom of the house of David, Your anointed one.

On Shabbat:  Show favor and strengthen us on this Sabbath Day.

On Sukkot:  OUR GOD and God of Israel, may there rise, come, reach, appear, be favored, heard, regarded and remembered, before You, our recollection and remembrance, as well as the remembrance of the fathers, and of the Messiah son of David Your servant, and of Jerusalem Your holy city, and of all your people the house of Israel – for deliverance and well-being, grace, loving-kindness and compassion, life and peace on this day of the Feast of Sukkot.  Remember us on it, LORD our God, for good; recollect us for blessing, and deliver us for life.  In accord with your promise of salvation and compassion, spare us and be gracious to us; have compassion on us and deliver us, for our eyes are turned to You because you are God, gracious and compassionate.

Leader:  REBUILD Jerusalem, the holy city, swiftly in our days.  Blessed are You, LORD, who in His compassion rebuilds Jerusalem, Amen. (Others: Amen).

BLESSED are you, LORD our God, King of the universe, God our Father, our King, the good King who does good to all.

(Personal prayers may be added here)

May He allow us to see the days of the Messiah.  May He who makes peace in His heights, make peace for us and all Israel, and everyone say, AMEN.
